Be sure not to miss out on Vancouver’s 14th Annual East Side Culture Crawl!

Most of us complain about how crazy the month of December can be, but for Jeffrey Boone, the executive director for the Eastside Culture Crawl, November is downright insane and no wonder. Jeffrey is experiencing his first year at the helm of this immensely popular Vancouver event and is working day and night to ensure that 2010 is the best Crawl yet. From what I see, Jeffrey is the guy to do it. Since he arrived in Vancouver more than a decade ago, he has worked exclusively in the arts and is a champion for the artist, something that is desperately needed since arts funding has essentially disappeared. The East End Culture Crawl (November 26, 27, and 28) is a non-profit event where the creations of hundreds of East Side working artists are showcased but Jeffrey isn’t doing this alone. In order to continue to make this event a success year after year the hard work and commitment of a very active Board of Directors is paramount. They also rely on a lot of help from volunteers who are currently being recruited so if you are so inclined I know for sure that your help would be appreciated. Due to the incredible popularity of this Vancouver event the geographical boundaries have been expanded this year to include any artist that has his or her permanent studio located in the region from Main to Victoria Drive and from the waterfront to north of 1st Ave. This means that almost 400 artists will be participating this year. I, for one, am already planning my strategy to attend as many studios as possible from Friday night to Sunday and looking forward to every minute of it. Whether you’re into sculpting, painting, photography, drawing, jewellery, music, textiles or any other medium you’re sure to find something or someone amazing. And last but not least, for those of you who don’t want to miss a good party, put November 21st on your calendar. The 5th annual Echo Chamber is taking place at the Cultch, 1895 Venables, tickets only $15. Held in the newly refurbished East End Cultural Centre, there will be overlapping performances of music, film and performing arts.

For those of you that haven’t attended the Crawl you must put this event on your calendars! Not only will you be inspired and awe struck but you will be able to purchase one of a kind items in any price range not to mention supporting a community which makes Vancouver a wonderful place to live.
